The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requests notification of address changes as soon as possible.
Go online
- Use My Account and click on “Change my address.”
- Use the MyCRA mobile application and select “Manage contact info.”
- Use My Service Canada Account and click on “Access now”. This will let you access My Account where you can click “Change my address.
Call
- Call 1-800-959-8281.
- Before you call, please be prepared to provide the following:
- Your social insurance number;
- Your name;
- Your complete address or complete business address;
- For individual accounts, your date of birth;
- For individual accounts, details from your account or your most recently assessed return, notice of assessment, reassessment, or other tax document
Mail or fax
Send one of these to your tax centre:
- A completed Form RC325, Address change request
- A signed letter that includes your social insurance number, new address, and moving date
- You can change someone else’s address at the same time as yours, such as your spouse’s or common-law partner’s. Your letter must include the name, social insurance number, and signature of that individual.
The TFSA program began in 2009. It is a way for individuals who are 18 years of age or older and who have a valid social insurance number (SIN) to set money aside tax free throughout their lifetime.
Contributions to a TFSA are not deductible for income tax purposes. Any amount contributed as well as any income earned in the account (for example, investment income and capital gains) is generally tax-free, even when it is withdrawn.

- Go to the CRA My Account login
- Log in with your preferred method. If you’ve set up your bank as a sign-in partner, this is the simplest way to access your CRA account.
- Under the tabbed header, navigate to RRSP and TFSA Screenshot
- Click Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) Screenshot
- Click Contribution Room
- Click Next at the disclaimer
- Look for 20XX TFSA contribution room on January 1, 20XX. This value is your most accurate contribution room since the date. Any contributions or withdrawals this year will not be included in this number

Notice of Assessment
- latest tax return for your TFSA contribution room.
You will accumulate TFSA contribution room for each year even if you do not file an income tax and benefit return or open a TFSA.
- The annual TFSA dollar limit for the years 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 was $5,000.
- The annual TFSA dollar limit for the years 2013 and 2014 was $5,500.
- The annual TFSA dollar limit for the year 2015 was $10,000.
- The annual TFSA dollar limit for the year 2016 and 2017 was $5,500.
- The annual TFSA dollar limit for the year 2018 is $5,500.
You can find your registered retirement savings plan (RRSP), pooled registered savings plan (PRPP) deduction limit, often called your “contribution room” by going to:
- Form T1028, Your RRSP Information for 2018
- CRA may send you a Form T1028 if there are any changes to your RRSP deduction limit since your last assessment.

You can use following methods to make payment:

- Online banking
- Sign in to your financial institution’s online banking service for individuals.
- Under “Add a payee,” look for an option such as:
- CRA (revenue) – current-year tax return
- Use this option to make a payment for your current tax return. You can use this option once per return.
- CRA (revenue) – tax amount owing
- Use this option to pay an amount owing for previous tax years.
- CRA (revenue) – tax instalment
- Use this option to make payments toward the future tax year.
- Enter your 9-digit social insurance number as your CRA account number.

- To create a PAD, you have to be registered for My Account.
- If you are not a registered My Account user, follow the steps below.
- Click on “CRA register” or “Continue to Sign-In Partner Login / Register” and follow the steps.
- You will then have limited access to My Account, which will allow you to create a PAD right away by selecting the “Pay by pre-authorized debit” link on the left side bar.
- The CRA will send you your official access code by mail.
- Once you enter the access code into My Account you will have full access, which allows you to view, modify, cancel or skip a payment.

To make a payment at your Canadian financial institution, you need a personalized remittance voucher from the CRA. Financial institutions do not accept photocopies of remittance vouchers or payment forms. You can order personalized remittance vouchers online or by phone. - Canada Post outlet
- You can pay in person with cash or debit card at any Canada Post outlet across Canada, for a fee. To do so, you will need a quick response (QR) code that contains information that allows the CRA to credit your account.
- How to generate a QR code:
- On this site you will be asked to select the tax type you want to pay, your social insurance number or business account number, your name, and the amount you want to pay.
- When you have completed the required fields, press ‘Continue’ to select where you want your QR code to display.
- The choices are: Send to Email; Send to Mobile or print at Home. You can choose any or all of these options. If you choose Send by Email, you will need to enter your email address. If you choose Send to Mobile, you will need to enter your 10-digit Mobile Number. If you choose print at home, a print icon will display.
- A service fee will be charged based on the amount of the payment and displays when creating the QR code.
• Pay by wire transfer
- You will need to provide the following information to your financial institution to send a wire transfer payment and account details to the CRA:

• Pay by cheque
- You can make a payment to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) with a cheque from your Canadian bank account.
- Make the cheque payable to the Receiver General for Canada and mail it, along with your remittance voucher, to the address on the back of your remittance voucher. If you do not have a remittance voucher, include your social insurance number along with any additional instructions indicating where you want the payment to be applied and mail it to:

There are many fraud types, including new ones invented daily.
Taxpayers should be vigilant when they receive, either by telephone, mail, text message or email, a fraudulent communication that claims to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requesting personal information such as a social insurance number, credit card number, bank account number, or passport number.
By phone
The CRA may
- verify your identity by asking for personal information such as your full name, date of birth, address and account, or social insurance number
- ask for details about your account, in the case of a business enquiry
- call you to begin an audit process
The CRA will never
- ask for information about your passport, health card, or driver’s license
- demand immediate payment by Interac e-transfer, bitcoin, prepaid credit cards or gift cards from retailers such as iTunes, Amazon, or others
- use aggressive language or threaten you with arrest or sending the police
- leave voicemails that are threatening or give personal or financial information
By email
The CRA may
- notify you by email when a new message or a document, such as a notice of assessment or reassessment, is available for you to view in secure CRA portals such as My Account, My Business Account, or Represent a Client
- email you a link to a CRA webpage, form, or publication that you ask for during a telephone call or a meeting with an agent (this is the only case where the CRA will send an email containing links)
The CRA will never
- give or ask for personal or financial information by email and ask you to click on a link
- email you a link asking you to fill in an online form with personal or financial details
- send you an email with a link to your refund
- demand immediate payment by Interac e-transfer, bitcoin, prepaid credit cards or gift cards from retailers such as iTunes, Amazon, or others
- threaten you with arrest or a prison sentence
By mail
The CRA may
- ask for financial information such as the name of your bank and its location
- send you a notice of assessment or reassessment
- ask you to pay an amount you owe through any of the CRA’s payment options
- take legal action to recover the money you owe, if you refuse to pay your debt
- write to you to begin an audit process
The CRA will never
- set up a meeting with you in a public place to take a payment
- demand immediate payment by Interac e-transfer, bitcoin, prepaid credit cards or gift cards from retailers such as iTunes, Amazon, or others
- threaten you with arrest or a prison sentence
By text messages/instant messaging
The CRA never uses text messages or instant messaging such as Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp to communicate with taxpayers under any circumstance. If a taxpayer receives text or instant messages claiming to be from the CRA, they are scams!
When in doubt, ask yourself
- Why is the caller pressuring me to act immediately? Am I certain the caller is a CRA employee?
- Did I file my tax return on time? Have I received a notice of assessment or reassessment saying I owe tax?
- Have I received written communication from the CRA by email or mail about the subject of the call?
- Does the CRA have my most recent contact information, such as my email and address?
- Is the caller asking for information I would not give in my tax return or that is not related to the money I owe the CRA?
- Did I recently send a request to change my business number information?
- Do I have an instalment payment due soon?
- Have I received a statement of account about a government program I owe money to, such as employment insurance or Canada Student Loans?
My Account is a secure portal that lets you view your personal income tax and benefit information and manage
your tax affairs online.
To register, a return for one of these two years must have been filed and assessed
My Account for Individuals
- Provide personal information
- Enter your social insurance number.
- Enter your date of birth.
- Enter your current postal code or ZIP code.
- Enter an amount you entered on one of your income tax and benefit returns. Have a copy of your returns
handy. (The line amount requested will vary. It could be from the current tax year or the previous one.) - Create a CRA user ID and password.
- Create your security questions and answers. You can also decide if you want a persistent cookie added to
your computer, so you can access CRA Login Services using that same computer later without being asked for
more identification.
- Enter the CRA security code
- To access your account, return to My Account for Individuals, select “CRA login,” and enter your CRA user
ID and password. When prompted, enter your CRA security code.

If you receive one of the following payments from the CRA and have a Canadian bank account, you can sign up for direct deposit:

- goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax credit and any similar provincial and territorial payments
- Canada child benefit and any similar provincial and territorial payments
- working income tax benefit
- deemed overpayment of tax
